CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

· Designed and developed one of the State of Maine's premier arts program offering visual arts, theater, dance, and music. Program received numerous regional and national recognitions for its design, quality, and depth of arts activities. Designed concept for new arts center and worked with architects directly in construction whereby six studio spaces and gallery surround a fully equipped auditorium. Design has been emulated by architect at other Maine schools.

· In 1984 Thornton Academy visual arts program was chosen for inclusion in Getty Center for the Arts’ “Beyond Creating”, a publication identifying outstanding art programs that met student needs. This was published and distributed nationally.

· Designed and developed Saco, Maine's educational channel which broadcasted a wide variety of programing.

· Recipient of numerous regional and national awards for visual arts education efforts and for arts advocacy.

· Adjunct Professor of Visual Arts Education, University of Southern Maine and Adjunct Professor of Fine Arts, Southern Maine Comunity College.

· While teaching participated in numerous art exhibits and twice won awards at the Saco Sidewalk Art Festival, Saco, Maine.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

1974 - 2011 Art Educator, Department Chairperson, Thornton Academy, 438 Main Street, Saco, Maine.

• Created the arts department program, including visual arts, theater, dance, and music. This program received numerous regional and national recognitions for its design, quality, and depth. Arts programing takes place in an arts center facility based on a concept that I developed. The studio spaces and gallery surround an auditorium, facilitating arts collaboration. General Manager for TATV, Channel 3, Saco, the only high school student-run station in the nation.

• Other positions have included department chairperson, advisor for award winning yearbooks and newspaper, advisor for creative literary/art magazine; coordinator for the gifted/talented program, and Art and Photo Clubs advisor.

• For 10 years, served as General Manager for TATV, Channel 3 - Saco, the only high school student-run station in the nation.

2025 Saco Public Schools Theme Committee

Established themes for two new elementary schools.

Worked with this architectural firm on three occasions to develop innovative solutions for educationally based building projects.

Helped create the visual art components for Maine’s Learning Results, upon which the fine arts section of the Maine Educational Assessment Test was based.

1985 - 1990 Adjunct Professor of Art Education, University of Southern Maine, Gorham, Maine
Taught Practicum in Art Education, Principles and Procedures in Art Education for student art teachers working on their B.S. degrees. Also taught Curriculum Writing for the Art Educators along with facilitating numerous art education workshops.

1984 - 86 Museum Educational Coordinator, Saco Museum, Saco, Maine.
Designed and established school and docent programs for the museum's collections.

1978-83 Printer and Graphic Designer for the town and schools of Kennebunk, Maine.

1973-78 Ceramics Instructor, Biddeford (Maine) Adult Education Program.

1976 Saco Youth Art Month Chairperson, Saco, Maine.

Taught grades K-8, moving from classroom to classroom. To facilitate this process I designed a mobile cart that would move from room to room with needed art materials, visuals, and display areas.

HONORS AND ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCES

2025 Served on Saco, Maine's committee to develop themes for the new elementary schools to be built.

2014 First Place Award in Photography, 44th Annual Sidewalk Arts Festival.

2009 "Cable's Leaders in Learning Award" for the creation and management of TATV, the only student-run high school station in the nation, Washington, D.C.

2006 - Student Television Network (STN) Board of Directors. Wrote the bylaws for STN.

2000 The 30th Annual Saco Sidewalk Art Festival dedicated to the TA Arts Department for creation and dedication of an Artist-In-Residence Program.

1996 Good Neighbor Award for community arts promotion from National Art Education Association and State Farm Insurance.

1994 Awarded Maine College of Art’s “Award for Public School Arts Education” for outstanding contributions to the arts in Maine, and for arts advocacy.

1994 Named ‘Outstanding Visual Arts Educator’ in the nation, Disney’s American Teacher Awards, Washington, D. C., during a live national broadcast, Washington, D.C.

1993 Wrote art exhibition reviews for the Journal Tribune, Biddeford, Maine, for their summer flyer series.

1992 Bronze sculpture class at Maine College of Art.

1992 Exhibited two paintings and 1 sculpture in a group exhibit of Maine art educators, Wiscasset Art Gallery, Wiscasset, Maine.

1991 Served on the ‘Per Cent for Art Committee’ to select artwork for the renovated Burns School, Saco, Maine.

1990 IBM’s ‘Maine Technology Teacher of the Year’ for creative and innovative use of computers in a visual arts program.

1989 National Art Education Association’s ‘Outstanding Program Standards Award’ for designing and creating an outstanding visual arts program, Washington, D.C.

1985 Named ‘Maine Art Educator of the Year’ by the State of Maine and the Maine Art Education Association.

1984 Named ‘New England Art Educator of the Year’ at the New England Regional Art Education Conference.
